Testimonials

If you are a do it yourself person, Sallie can help you plan your garden and you can install. Or, you can have her do it all! She completely transformed my front yard and I love it that her garden and mine look so very different; perhaps reflective of our personalities?
And Sallie’s pricing is sooo very reasonable for the expertise she provides.

When we moved into our new (old) home, there was so much to do. The landscaping was messy and full of weeds. Sallie used the plants and other materials that were already there, but organized them in a way that made sense. She uncovered the beautiful architecture of the house that was hidden under the overgrown bushes. Now the landscaping compliments the house instead of detracting from it.

I had three hip surgeries in one year so Sallie weeded my garden when I couldn’t. Now we are building a vegetable garden and will donate the food we grow to local food pantries. I recommend hiring Sallie.

We Highly Recommend Sallie, the Garden Concierge. My husband Marc and I have lived in Riverside for 17 years and have long wanted to transform our yard. Despite having gardening and design skills ourselves, we just couldn’t launch our ideas into reality. Attempts to work with other gardeners or landscape architects were highly disappointing. We just couldn’t find reliability or imagination. I was lucky to happen upon a social media recommendation for the Garden Concierge in the spring and meeting Sallie changed our lives. From the moment Sallie answered her phone, I knew this was the right “fit.” Sallie is cheerful, responsive, reliable and passionate. We were able to set up a meeting with Sallie within days of my original call. The Garden Concierge initiated her work with us by asking us to fill out a questionnaire which was both thorough and interesting. She drilled down into questions that would establish the baseline for our dream landscape. After assessing this information, Sallie met with us to review her visual ideas and to share a planting recommendations. Within a week we were in the yard implementing our shared ideas with Sallie gardening right alongside of us and educating us on proper planting methods. Moving our Japanese maple together was a joyful moment that I won’t soon forget. Sallie’s enthusiasm for gardening is infectious and serves to remind me how important our relationship with nature is for overall well-being. Sallie’s thoughts don’t end with plant material, they extend to shape, form, fixtures, furniture and more…all the while striving to compliment the architectural integrity of the home. Add frequent drop-ins to assure things are growing and you just couldn’t ask for a better service provider.

Sallie’s “frugal” approach to gardening is refreshing and perfect for folks like us. Her ability to source plants from unique places is smart for all parties involved. Our yard was truly transformed this summer and we take great pride in it and all of the comments we get from passers-by. Better still is knowing that the beauty of our new landscape is a result of a partnership with the Garden Concierge who is simply a delight to work with. Sallie’s work ethic is superior and matches our own as working professional ourselves. It proves that quality service providers are out there if you search hard enough. We look forward to moving into our backyard work next spring and can’t wait to work with Sallie on this next important phase of transformation. We are so grateful to have met Sallie, as she has inspired us to love our home & landscape in a new way.

About Me

My name is Sallie Boge. Gardening has woven a special thread through my life. From childhood through high school, I helped in my parents' garden, discovering the magic and beauty of a well-designed landscape.

After graduating from college I had a successful career working for Fortune 500 companies. All the while, I studied gardening trends, landscape design and horticulture.

Lectures by prominent Midwest garden directors and nurserymen and visits to gardens in America, England, and Canada provided more ideas.   A new home became the laboratory to put my studies to the test.

I started volunteering in the gardens of my church 26 years ago and continue to update their design and maintain them, supervise student and adult volunteers, and grow organic vegetables to share with local food pantries.

I continuously build my garden knowledge by attending garden lectures and on occasion, delivering one. Currently, I am studying with "Learning With The Experts", Piet Oudolf's (the man who designed Millenium Park's Lurie Gardens) design school. In March, 2022, I completed my Garden Designer Diploma, which is recognized by the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.

For over 12 years, I have served clients in Chicago's near west suburbs. I look forward to gardening with you soon.

My Promise

My goal is to create a garden that will become the favorite "room" in your home.

Any plants or materials I recommend will be the right ones for the space.

I promise to share my knowledge and secrets so that you get free gardening lessons while I am in your garden.

If the job is too big for me or you can get it done less expensively elsewhere, I will refer you to or work together with my trusted contractors.

My hope is that my clients become friends.
